Look at this gorgeous baby girl! Maisie came to her first newborn session wearing a Pavlik harness for her hips. This meant she was unable to do certain poses that required her being curled up with her legs together or her hips rotated. Initially, her parents wondered if they should postpone her session altogether until the harness was off but I hated to miss her tiny baby stage, because what if her harness needed to be on longer than anticipated? Knowing they really wanted those little baby images and some curled-up poses I decided to split her session into two.
At her first session, I did only poses where her legs/hips could remain in her harness position. Once into position, I was able to lower her shoulder straps and simply cover the harness with a wrap. The images with the basket, the floral & teal backdrops, the pink drop where she is 'tucked-in', the flokati with the bonnet, and the little bed were all from her session at 18 days old.
When Maisie was 8 WEEKS old she came back for a few images where she could be swaddled and posed more curled up. The image in the heart bowl, on the moon, on her belly & side, and in the 'potato wrap' were all taken after she was out of her harness. Although posing her at 8 weeks was indeed more difficult than at 18 days I think she did a great job and we were able to capture some more of her details while she was still small. She was a gorgeous baby and just got even more gorgeous as she got older!
If your little one is born with certain limitations please don't let that make you think they cannot have newborn images. Share with me what their restrictions are and what we can & cannot do and I can still make precious memories of their first weeks of life.
