I recently blogged about this lovely couple's maternity session and now I must introduce their baby boy Elliot! He is so adorable and he was such a good baby for his in-home newborn session! His mom mentioned at their maternity session that dad is a hunter so I knew I had to do a little hunting theme. I love his little camo pants with the little log bed and I added a little camo to his bucket prop too.
Let's quick chat about that bucket prop - did you know that I can change the colors and patterns of just one bucket to coordinate with my setups? The shop I purchase a lot of my blanket drops & props from invented little magnetic covers for the bucket they sell. This bucket is the perfect size for newborns and years ago they used to hand paint them, double-sided colors, to sell - but then you still had to purchase multiple buckets to get more & more colors. Did you also know that newborn photographers buy a lot of props for their clients use? It's like hoarding LOL But back to these bucket covers - just last weekend I took some time to photograph the cover options I currently have (I am always adding more) so that my clients can see the design options. Go take a look here! I cannot wait to use that Harry Potter one!!! The camo on Elliot's bucket I borrowed from a friend but I may have to add that to my next order.
Back to Elliot's newborn session though - he also modeled my newest little black tank onesie that is PERFECT for family photos - you can see that here. I love the simplicity & it makes the black & white images look even more stunning!
I just realized Elliot tried out a lot of new stuff at his session because that little basket was brand new as well along with the new wood floor I used. Thanks for being such a great model Elliot!
I know not everyone is a fan of bonnets, especially on boys and I don't think his dad particularly liked it (LOL) but I adore that bonnet image. There is something just so old-fashioned and sweet about a baby in a bonnet and I love it almost as much as I love the sleepy caps! He then threw me a sweet smile and made the perfect little potato in my potato pose. I typically do all of my wrapped poses at the end of the session. I like to use the sleepiest time of the newborn session to do the 'hardest' stuff first which for me are the naked poses and the props. Once baby is all swaddled up we get done with those in a breeze. I simply put them in a base wrap, add my 'fattening' layers and change out that top outer wrap for different looks.
